Kathryn had been having teaser contractions for days, but when things kicked into high gear, there was no mistaking that the time was drawing near to meet little Christian!
She woke up around 3 a.m. and consulted with her midwife. She confirmed that it sounded like she was in early, but active labor, and it was still too early to head to the birth center. Kathryn called on her doula, Megan, who then came over to comfort her. We heard from Kathryn again around 11 a.m. and things had progressed to the point that she was ready to make the long drive to the birth center. A little after noon, she arrived at the birth center and was assessed. Afterwards, Kathryn with her support team (Hubby Justin, Doula Megan, and Kathryn’s mother) went for a walk outside and to grab some food. When Kathryn got back to the birth center, her labor was kicking!!! We filled the pool, and she got in and tried to relax and let her body do what it needed to do. Before long, we could hear Kathryn making spontaneous pushing noises.
Around that time, they requested that I photograph the birth. We had discussed it at an earlier time during a prenatal visit, but it completely slipped my mind! I apologize that there aren’t any labor photos, I only caught the major action. 😉
Kathryn was so fierce and strong! She never seemed scared or said she couldn’t do it. Instead she listened to her body and stayed relaxed.
Congratulations Kathryn and Justin on the waterbirth of their first child!
Christian Scott arrived The Ocala Birth Center on 10/15/13 at 3:52PM weighing in at 7lbs 5oz.
