I didn’t know Karina well before her birth. She transferred to us late in her pregnancy, so I only sat in on a couple of her prenatal visits, and didn’t really have a feel for what she may be like in labor. An awesome thing about being birth support, I always come out of the experience feeling bonded with the family. Karina liked it dark and quiet while she was in labor. Her boyfriend, Carlos, and mother were around for support. We all carefully offered assistance and love in small doses, trying not to overwhelm her while she worked so very hard at relaxing and opening up for little Senai. Holding her hand, looking at the cute, bright polish, we would watch her work through each surge and try to rest between.
Birth is much like a marathon, woman grow tired by the end and it can all seem overwhelming…. Then comes that second wind, and they get determined. They see or feel that tiny head, in between two worlds, and they find the power to push through and meet their child!
“No one else will ever know the strength of my love for you. After all, you’re the only one who knows what my heart sounds like from the inside.” – Unknown
